I am a maker and educator currently teaching Industrial Design at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. I hold an MFA in Furniture Design from the Rhode Island School of Design and a BA in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. I make one of a kind and limited edition furniture and also find myself exploring sculpture. In 2007, I was named a “searchlight artist” - an emerging artist to watch by the American Craft Council. I’ve exhibited nationally and have had the privilege of lecturing at the California College of the Arts, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and have spoken on the Critical Discourse panel at the annual Furniture Society Conference. I am currently represented by the Wexler Gallery in Philadelphia, Shidoni Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and have been featured in American Craft Magazine. I always look forward to and enjoy getting to know “one on one” the people I make work for.
Title: WeNotMe (limited edition piece)
Much of my creative work deals with using weaving and binding as a metaphor for cultural reconciliation. Evoking the potential of furniture objects as heirlooms, I hope to create work that brings people together. Having studied traditional bamboo basketry techniques with fiber artist, Jiro Yonezawa, this opportunity to celebrate both bamboo and furniture as talismans of connection, community, and creativity is particularly exciting.
