My clients have all the best ideas; I am merely the technician. My favorite projects are the ones where someone comes to me with a wacky concept, and I get to figure out how to design and build it. My creative energy is best utilized solving puzzles, and coming up with unique resolutions to common problems.
I love to build things with curves, and I love to blur lines of convention. My wooden bike fenders are a tease to get people thinking about using odd building materials in an unorthodox manner. Dining tables can be held together with industrial cable, table feet can be plastic shoe forms, glass-top side tables can glow from lighting inside.
My Chaboo Is an attempt to be subtle, and let my restyling enhance, rather than overpower the clean angular design of Ken’s work. I had in mind the tradition of mother of pearl inlays popular in Arabic furniture. In contrast to the time-honored method of blanketing the piece with a geometric ornamentation, I like the idea of just a dash of carefully placed spice.
