I find myself obsessively interested in too many things. It's this strange characteristic of undervaluing my successes that keeps me working harder and harder. I think I'd like to be a master of all things. And I think life is long enough to accomplish that.
Each one of my pieces is born of an indeterminate amount of found material. I hand picked the elements of this bench from my collection of odds and ends, things that I've found along the way - I've accumulated a heaping stack over the years. These strips in particular were all carefully harvested from a building in Northwest PDX that was being converted from a convenience store into an art gallery. I picked the pieces because they showcased a variety of textures and tones that convey a sense of the living character of the old building. I was very glad to have the opportunity to preserve and re-present a small piece of it for Project Chaboo.
